HOMAGE to CARRIE FISHER -- DIGITALLY ON EDGE

I read POSTCARDS FROM THE EDGE in 1986.

I made a very simple accordion book using quotes from Carrie Fisher's book
and displaying all the tricks and tools of the then very primitive Macintosh SE.

I'M NOT A BOX. I DON'T HAVE SIDES. THIS IS IT. ONE SIDE FITS ALL. THIS IS IT.

SHE KNEW SOMEDAY SHE WOULD FIND THE EXACT RIGHT OUTFIT
THAT WOULD MAKE HER LIFE WORK.
MAYBE NOT HER WHOLE LIFE, SHE THOUGHT, AS SHE GOT BACK IN
BED, BUT AT LEAST THE PARTS SHE HAD TO DRESS FOR.

I DIDN'T STAND UP IN SCHOOL AND SAY, "MY GOAL WHEN I'M
OLDER IS TO BE IN A DRUG HOSPITAL, EATING CAFETERIA
FOOD AND WATCHING OUTER LIMITS AND FIGHTING IN
GROUP THERAPY AND PLAYING VOLLEYBALL IN THE PARK
AND NOT DEALING WITH MY FEELINGS."

MOST OF THE PEOPLE IN HERE SHARE THE DESIRE TO SEEM COOL.

I KNOW I'M GOING TO GET OLD AND BE ONE OF
THOSE CRAZY WOMEN WHO SITS ON
BALCONIES AND SPITS ON PEOPLE
AND SCREAMS, "GET A HAIRCUT!"
I KNOW THIS AND I DON'T REALLY FEAR IT.
I'D JUST LIKE TO MOVE TOWARD IT WITH
AS MUCH GRACE & DIGNITY AS POSSIBLE.

WE'VE BECOME SMART ENOUGH TO JUSTIFY STUPID BEHAVIOR
IT'S LIKE, IF WE CAN MAKE IT SOUND SMART ENOUGH,
WE'RE ALLOWED TO DO STUPID THINGS.
